Diversity has become a buzzword these days...and for good reason.
Diversifying your hiring process can bring in talent you may overlook. When you employ a more diverse workforce, your company will benefit from having many different perspectives and types of experience. By diversifying your hiring process, you get the opportunity to INCREASE employee engagement, performance, and profitability.
Some companies are inadvertently discriminating in their hiring processes. This is why you need to do your best at removing biases from the process. You should take these steps to diversify your hiring process and welcome in the wide talent pool that exists now.
Make Your Job Postings More Inclusive
When writing job postings, be mindful of what words you use to describe the position, skills needed, and responsibilities. Avoid using words that can insinuate as desiring one gender over another. Also, don't forget to include that EEOC Statement at the end of every job description.
You can also explain how your company is already diverse. This gives incentive for a wide array of candidates to apply for the position you are advertising. Make sure your website careers page showcases different genders, races, ages, and backgrounds.
Make Sure Your Recruiter or Interview Team Is Not Biased
You can make your job posting as inclusive and welcoming as possible, but if your recruiter or interview panel has either conscious or unconscious biases, all that effort would have been wasted.
Make sure your hiring team is open to looking at the best candidates for the position, REGARDLESS of anything beyond their qualifications for the job. You want the right SKILLS for the job, no matter who has them.

Establish a Company-Wide Commitment to Diversity
If your company has a clearly written organizational commitment for having diversity and inclusion as part of its ethos, this will make it more attractive to a wider pool of candidates.
By developing and following through on an authentic commitment to diversity, your company will become one which is highly appealing to everyone.
Practice What You Preach
It is not enough to simply say that you embrace diversity and want a more inclusive team.
It just doesn't work that way. You need to demonstrate that you are committed to actualizing those words into actions. Reach out to diverse communities and feature spokespeople who come from multicultural and diverse backgrounds.
You can go a step further and show how your upper management is diverse just like the rest of your company. Now THAT is something that will separate you from other companies.
Offer Location-Independent Positions
If you want to bring in a more diverse talent pool, you must open up positions to being location-independent.
Thanks to today's technology, employees can potentially work from anywhere in the county with an internet connection. Embrace this opportunity to open up your open positions to more backgrounds and experiences than you would have had if you simply hired in the geographical area where your company's physical location was based in.
Millennials, who are an incredibly diverse segment of the talent pool, are especially into working remotely.
Diversifying your hiring process can bring in some exceptionally great talent into your company. When you diversify, you show your commitment to hiring a team for their skills and experience, not because of their gender, religion, color, or other defining features. Diversifying your company will make it STRONGER.
